I first got to play bass in 1961 when my elementary school got its first ever string bass. After playing bass in orchestra in school, I was exposed to bluegrass as a freshman at the University of Michigan in 1968. Early influences were Tom Gray and Ed Ferris.

My favorite bluegrass artists are Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley, Seldom Scene, and Doc Watson.

Bands I've played include:The Huron Valley Bluegrass Rounders (1968-69), and since 1969, The RFD Boys in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

I enjoy playing bluegrass and (international) travel and playing with talented, enthusiastic and energetic young musicians.

Currently, I'm playing a carved (solid) bass by Emmanuel Wilfer of Germany.
