I've been playing the fiddle for over 35 years. I love Kenny Baker, Bobby Hicks, Vassar Clemens, and of the young whippersnappers, my favorite player is Stuart Duncan. I love all the old traditional bands: Bill Monroe, The Stanley Brothers, Jim & Jesse, etc. Lonesome County is a great opportunity for me to grow as a bluegrass player. I've spent most of the last two decades playing Irish music. Playing bluegrass again is very liberating and inspiring. I love being able to improvise and work in all those funny keys. I've played with several Irish and American string bands in California and here in Michigan. I also host a Sunday night jam session at Connor O'Neill's pub in Ann Arbor. I have my own graphic design business, Somberg Design (www.sombergdesign.com). I like playing with Lonesome County because the guys are very encouraging and are good about letting me know when I¹m getting it right. The fiddle I play was made by my friend Brian Bishop from Lansing, MI. He builds great instruments. You can find him at bbv@comcast.net. |
